PRIVATE GUITAR LESSONS - Ages 7 and Up

In the guitar classes, you will learn how to play basic chords, do basic strumming patterns, read chord charts, tune your own
guitar, and be able to accompany yourself or others while singing simple songs.

As you progress, you will then learn how to read notes (melodies of songs) and learn the theory behind the music.
    (Intermediate)

After learning the basics, note reading and theory, you will then be able to study the Classical Guitar Music and learn all
kinds of Classical songs, picking styles, and various techniques from scales to Bach, Carcassi, and Fernando Sor, etc.
    (advanced)

For class all you need to bring is your own guitar, guitar tuner, and a folder for your music.

    UKULELE - Private  Lessons - Ages 7 & Up

If you ever wanted to play the ukulele or were even curious about this little instrument, then this class is for you!!

In my Ukulele class you will learn to play basic chords, read chord charts, learn how to tune your Ukulele, and play basic
strumming patterns.  You will be able to accompany yourself or others while singing simple songs.  In a short period of time
you will be ready for that Luau and for all the Hawaiian Sing-A-Longs!

As you continue, you will learn how to read the notes and melody lines of songs plus learn the theory of Music.  You will also
learn how to pick the strings and do various accompanying styles.

Bring your own Ukulele (standard or concert style) and Tuner along with a folder for your music handouts.

PIANO LESSONS - Ages  5 and Up

Piano lessons are all done as private lessons due to the amount of study and the attention that needs to be given to each
    individual student.

All students taught go through the Alfred Series (piano course).  I teach using the European Method or more classical
method with the emphasis placed on the correct hand positions and correct techniques for playing.

Along with studying various piano finger exercises/techniques and playing short songs, the students learn theory.  There is
both therefore written work, songs, and exercises to practice.  I assign work each week and correct the work the following
week before assigning anything new.  All work is geared to the student's age and ability level.

As students progress supplemental pieces are added in and may consist of pieces by Bach, Chopin, Scott Joplin, or the
various Hymns used for Church services or more contemporary pieces from movies.

There is a Music Recital twice a year for the students so that they can show off what they have learned.  Students are never
forced to participate but only do so if they want to and if they are ready.

So, dust off the Piano and let's play!!

    VOICE LESSONS - Ages 10 & Up

As a Voice Major myself I know how important it is to train and use this instrument both carefully and wisely.

Students who wish to study voice do so in a private or semi-private lesson. (A semi-private lesson would be only 2 people
together such as 2 sisters or 2 friends).

When beginning to study, the correct breathing techniques are taught first in order to give the best support for the voice.
Then, basic vocal exercises are taught in order to gradually strengthen the voice, help teach the correct vowel sounds and
proper pronunciation, use the breath as a support for the notes produced and to slowly increase the vocal range and bring
forth more clarity of tone and pitch.

Once we practice the "foundations" next come very basic songs (no Arias yet!)  I use various forms of music such as the Old
English Air, Contemporary Music which would be age appropriate for the students and then gradually work up to a simple Aria.

If you do need a special song for a special occasion I will try to add that in too.

There are 2 recitals each year to showcase the talent of all our Music students.  Voice students are not forced to participate
and perform only if they want to and if they are ready.

Voice lessons are a great way to improve the talent you may already have.  The lessons do help build confidence and are a
fun way to use the instrument you have already been given.

DRUMS  -  Ages 7 & Up     (Standard Drums and Hawaiian Drumming)

Standard Drum Lessons - In this class learn how to read the basic beats of drumming.  Students learn the proper way to
hold the drum sticks, count the rhythms, and read music for drumming solos.

Music theory is part of this class.  Pieces to practice are assigned each week and are checked the following week before new
    exercises and pieces are given.

Students need to have a practice pad to start and a set of beginning drum sticks.  Also, bring a folder for the music handouts.

Hawaiian Drum Lessons - Hawaiian drumming is taught during the Hawaiian Hula/Tahitian class on Monday and Friday
    night.
